When I made the decision to get my
MBA, I treated my search and application like a part-time job. I set out
to learn everything I could about getting an MBA. My list of questions
seemed endless. I wanted to know:
- What schools had the best programs for me?
- What did schools look for in a candidate?
- What should I do to maximize my chance of getting admitted?
- How could I get a scholarship to pay for most or all of tuition?
I
scoured the web sites of each of the Top 40 programs, talked with
admissions counselors, studied resume writing and practiced my
interviewing skills. After months of preparation, I selected my schools
and carefully crafted my applications.
Eventually
I was admitted to my top 3 choices, with over $120,000 total financial
aid offered. I attended the University of Wisconsin, a top marketing
program, where I had a full-tuition scholarship, paid health insurance,
and a $1,000 monthly stipend.
Now
as an MBA admissions consultant, I share the things I learned going the
process myself -- as well as the tips and tricks I've picked up since. I
